While sustainability is a vast topic itself, the electronics industry must face the basic challenges of many aspects arising from UNs sustainable development goals (SDGs).
One possible approach for making a change is to focus on circularity and recycling – therefore a novel polylactic acid/flax-composite based PCB substrate was developed recently, forming a basis of a biodegradable, reinforced, and flame-retarded sustainable PCB. Recently, the development of the technology gained a boost within the framework of a Horizon Pathfinder EIC project, where European partners formed an enthusiastic consortium, to show, how our mindset could be changed in applying these special substrates for a more sustainable electronics future. The methodology, the new demonstrators and research paths, questions and answers will be presented for a greener technology, which is already piquing interests of tech companies around the world. Can we change our mindset for a future, where “just enough technology” could push us to new and exciting solutions?
