What is HCHiP?
The HCHiP – Hungarian Semiconductor Technology Competence Centre is Hungary’s leading knowledge hub for chip and semiconductor technologies. It serves as the primary point of contact for companies, research institutes, and higher education institutions interested in the semiconductor industry and related technological fields.
HCHiP was established through the collaboration of three of Hungary’s most renowned research and academic institutions: the Bay Zoltán Research Institute, the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), and the HUN-REN Centre for Energy Research (CER). Together, these institutions represent the country’s comprehensive knowledge base and professional expertise in semiconductor-related fields. .
Partners of HCHiP gain access not only to national research infrastructure and state-of-the-art equipment, but also to the personalised support of an experienced expert team. Whether facing development challenges, technological questions, or innovation opportunities, HCHiP provides a stable and reliable professional framework background to support partners in achieving their objectives.
The Mission of HCHiP
HCHiP aims to make semiconductor and chip technologies widely accessible to Hungarian industrial and academic stakeholders, enabling them to integrate advanced semiconductor, micro-, and nanotechnologies into their own technology portfolios. Through these activities , HCHiP contribute to the development of higher value-added products and the achievement of new scientific results.
Our long-term goal is to build a strong and well-founded Hungarian semiconductor ecosystem. To achieve this, we support existing players, encourage the entry of new ones, and—working together with major international companies—place special emphasis on the involvement of SMEs and the development of their technological capabilities.
International Outlook – European Technological Opportunities
HCHiP’s activities go beyond the coordination of national semiconductor capacities. As an active member of the European Network of Chips Competence Centres (ENCCC), our centre provides access to the broader European semiconductor ecosystem. Through this network, our partners can benefit from Europe’s most significant infrastructures, expert knowledge, and innovation resources.
We support the identification of optimal collaboration partners, funding opportunities, and development programmes not only at national but also at European level, helping turn ideas into successful and market-ready solutions.
HCHiP Services
HCHiP supports its clients across the entire semiconductor value chain—from the initial idea to market-ready solutions. Whether it is a simple characterisation measurement, the selection of the most suitable technology, or complex development and design processes, our expert team is a reliable partner at every stage.
Professional Consultation and Concept Development
We support the development and evaluation of ideas across the full range of semiconductor technologies. We help identify relevant technologies and transform ideas into feasible and viable technological concepts.
Product Development and Prototyping
A strong concept is the foundation of success. HCHiP accompanies the entire development process—from detailed design and manufacturing planning to the realisation of a functional prototype and, if required, small-scale production.
Technology and Characterisation Services
Our modern infrastructure enables a wide range of semiconductor manufacturing processes and characterisation measurements. In addition, through our international partner network, we provide access to further cutting-edge equipment and capacities.
Business and Economic Consulting
Our experts support partners from both technological and business perspectives. We assist with economic feasibility analyses, from identifying targeted semiconductor funding opportunities to analysing the full lifecycle of a product.
Education and Knowledge Sharing
HCHiP regards knowledge development and transfer as a strategic priority. Our educational offerings range from introductory courses and professional training programmes to customised, company-specific training solutions. In addition, we contribute to educating the next generation of semiconductor professionals through full two-year master’s degree programmes.
